Using School-by-School Spending Data: An Opportunity for LEAs

The National Center has received Department of Education funding to guide and support a diverse cohort of local education agencies (LEAs) in their efforts to improve the usefulness of school-by-school per-pupil expenditure data and enhance decision making capacity about resource allocations, particularly among parents and other education advocates, school board members and administrators.

The National Comprehensive Center is offering around 10 LEAs the opportunity to receive support from national subject matter experts in visualizing these data and using them for local policy conversations to inform education improvements in their communities. Selected LEAs will work with the National Center, including experts from the Edunomics Lab, to review their school spending data, create data visualizations, and develop plans for engaging stakeholders in conversations about equitable school spending. Participating LEAs will receive customized school-by-school spending visualizations as well as training and conversation guides to support them in using these ESSA-required school-by-school spending data to examine resource allocations and opportunities to improve equity and student outcomes.

I hope you will nominate an LEA for participation in this funded project or pass along this invitation to any LEA leaders who may be interested in this opportunity to enhance their capacity in this area. LEAs you are already partnering with in any of your current work may be good candidates for this opportunity.
